The plain and unpersonal front containing the control buttons of most audio components is changed for a successful design with in the middle a protruding panel including a remarkable round window in the PS15S2, showing a view on the information screen. The control button at the sides are lit blue, luckily the light can be turned off. When disabling the full illumination, the lights slightly glow when choosing a different setting, after which they automatically dim again. Very practical.
Weighing 18,5 kg the PM15S2 amplifier is quite a heavy chap. Solidly built and the whole displays a very appealing look, both in desing, build and control, also thanks to the solid and easily controllable Universal remote control, usable for both devices. Each component is supported by four conic plastic feet, to maximally absorb vibrations. The PM15S2 has one pair of WBT speaker connections and one MC/MM phono-amp connection at the back. Using a button at the fron you choose between the MM or MC setting. It also has 6 source inputs and one pre-out for the subwoofer or additional amplifier. Through the pre-in you can connect a separate pre-amp, converting the PM15S2 into a classic power amplifier.
The integrated amplifier can also serve in a home theater system, driving the two front speakers. Also available is a switchable high- and low tone control using practical turning knobs, and a electronic balance control. When using headphones a button enables you to choose whether you want to still use the main speakers or not. The main level is controlled by a large knob on the right of the device, while the volume chosen is visible in the middle screen, also displaying the source chosen during a few seconds after selection. Inside the device the 200 watt toroidal ring core transformer is visible, and also the separated and decoupled pre-and power amplification, including volume circuits mounted on a separate base plate to reduce vibrations. Marantz claims the PM15S2 can drive the most demanding speakers.
