Dynaudio was founded in 1977 and, as a company, continues to strive for “Authentic Fidelity”: a natural, realistic and dynamic sound. Dynaudio has grown from a niche player into a world-class speaker manufacturer with a very wide audience in mind: from the music lover with a modest budget to the most demanding melomaniac. The latest developments we find in the area of digitization and wireless networking technology. In the meanwhile, the company also closed deals with car manufacturers (eg VAG group) and PC manufacturers for standard installation of Dynaudio speakers.
User experience and listening session
At one night, the speakers were eagerly waiting on me in the far town of Lommel, at the headquarters of AudioVideo2Day. Just like the smaller Xeo 3, they live a traveling existence as demo material for several months already and they are continuously being put to the test in new environments. The Xeo 5 cases were packed in sturdy, double walled cardboard boxes and put in an an additional fabric cover to provide the speakers with the best protection possible during the transportation from Denmark to their final destination. When ordering, you can choose between a piano black or glossy white lacquer finish. Dry rubbing is enough to quickly remove any fingerprints after assembling. The Xeo 5 speakers both contain a built-in receiver and a digital amplifier that switch themselves on and off automatically, based on the present signal. You can also force the speakers into standby mode by using the included remote. At the back you will find an additional on/off button. The included boxes contain all cables necessary: power cords for Europe and the UK, optical, USB and RCA cabled to connect the audio source to the transmitting device, as well as a transformer with a power cord for the transmitter. This concept is not new. There’s a demand for good sound through a wireless speaker system. Ideally, you connect a digital source to a transmitter, which transmits the sound wirelessly and digitally to a speaker with a built-in receiver, which in turn passes on the signal to the speakers through a digital amplifier. This means end-to-end digital to maximally retain the sound quality, assuming that you can guarantee an error-free data transfer, combined with a simple configuration.
Dynaudio succeeded to guarantee a fast and stable data transfer, suitable for 99% of the listening environments. The system is easy to assemble. You connect the audio source to the transmitter, then you power the transmitter via the included adapter, switch on the speakers and select the right source and room via the switches present on the remote and speakers. The red light on the transmitter turns blue when the transmitter and the receiver meet each other and the light on the front of the speakers also turns blue. Now you can start listening to music. Then you can combine various resources (up till 3) and select these via the remote. You can also combine several Xeo speakers in different rooms, whether or not in stereo or mono. On the speakers themselves you can determine whether they should behave as left, right or mono unit.
